Meet Your Percussion Instructor - Mike Montgomery
Your percussion lessons are taught by Mike Montgomery, who studied percussion at The Hartt School under renowned timpanist and educator Alexander Lepak.Mike brings a comprehensive understanding of percussion technique, musical interpretation, and performance. Students receive personalized instruction covering everything from foundational rudiments and reading music to advanced orchestral, contemporary, and world percussion styles.
- • Snare Drum Lessons: You will learn to develop proper technique, rhythm and coordination. Students will learn essential snare drum rudiments, including single strokes, double strokes, paradiddles, flams, drags, and rolls, while building speed, accuracy, control, and consistency.
- • Mallet Percussion: Learn marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, and orchestra bells, including proper technique, reading music, and musical expression.
- • Timpani Lessons: Develop tuning skills, mallet technique, sound production, and orchestral performance techniques.
- • Hand Percussion: Explore bongos, tambourines, triangles, castanets, cowbells, temple blocks, and other instruments.
- • World Percussion: Explore Latin, African, Caribbean, and Afro-Cuban rhythms using congas, bongos, timbales, cajón, and more.
